BREAKING NEWS: San Diego to become first city in nation to have street named after Harvey Milk | VIDEO

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego will become the first city in the nation to honor legendary LGBT civil rights icon Harvey Milk with a street naming. Today, the San Diego City Council voted unanimously to approve a proposal which will rename Blaine Avenue in Hillcrest as Harvey Milk Street.

City Councilmember Todd Gloria, who represents the district in which the street is located, said he is pleased with the vote.

BREAKING NEWS: Planning commission rejects Hillcrest Pride Flag project, but City Council to make final decision

SAN DIEGO – The City of San Diego’s Planning Commission today voted 4-2 to not recommend the Hillcrest Business Association (HBA) application to install a 65-foot Pride flagpole at the intersection of Normal Street and University Avenue, but the project could still obtain the approval of the City Council.

The proposal calls for a rainbow flag to fly year-round on the flagpole, which is in the heart of the gayborhood and near The Center.

VIDEO: Urban Mo's to celebrate 20 years TONIGHT

SAN DIEGO -- More than 50 area restaurants will participate in this weekend's "Taste of Hillcrest," taking place Saturday, April 21, from noon to 4 pm. Tickets are now available for the event, which organizers are calling "the tastiest event of the season!"

Participants will be treated to "tastes" from restaurants throughout Hillcrest, ranging from cafes to bistros to Five-Star dining experiences. The self-guided culinary tour will include appetizers, desserts, hearty dishes, ethnic cuisine and American classics.

Uptown farmers markets expanding to the community and giving back

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego has some of the most exquisite weather in the country, so it’s not surprising that area farmers have a harvest season that spans longer than most. The city’s numerous weekly farmers markets provide these farmers opportunities to sell their wares and integrate with the community. Farmers markets in Hillcrest and North Park have added two new programs to extend their community involvement in their weekly markets.

Hillcrest Pride Flag project moves forward in the planning process

SAN DIEGO -- The proposed Hillcrest Pride Flag project is moving through the City of San Diego's planning process, and will go before both the San Diego Planning Commission and the San Diego City Council in upcoming weeks.

The planning commission will review the proposal at its April 12 meeting, and will forward its recommendation to the full City Council in advance of its May 15 meeting, at which time the final ruling on the project's outcome will be made.

UCSD proposes traffic-flow changes in Hillcrest

SAN DIEGO -- Representatives from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) medical center spoke at the Hillcrest Business Association (HBA) board meeting on March 13 to update the HBA on the status of UCSD’s proposed changes in accessing its Hillcrest medical center. Changes include altering the direction of traffic on up to three city streets to allow better access to the hospital for emergency vehicles, patients and employees.
