VIDEO: New Hillcrest sign installed, to be re-lit Sunday during CityFest

SAN DIEGO -- Hillcrest is about to get a little bit brighter again. The iconic neighborhood sign that has hung over University Avenue near Fifth Avenue for decades was replaced early today with a new sign that includes LED technology.

Crews worked during the wee hours this morning to install the new $40,000 sign in time for a re-lighting ceremony Sunday during the 27th annual Hillcrest CityFest event.

SAN DIEGO -- Hillcrest is a few steps closer toward being a bit more colorful thanks to an army of high heel stomping community members and other donors who participated in and supported the Amazing High Heel Race.

More than $25,000 was raised as a result of the effort, which included a combination of donations from event participants and "legacy contributions" from four local business owners.

SAN DIEGO -- While it would not necessarily be considered abnormal for a community like Hillcrest, if you happened to see teams of people jogging or working out wearing high heels over the last couple of weeks, they were most likely training for the first-ever Amazing High Heel Race, to be held tomorrow, June 18.

Fitness trainer Chris Tina Bruce of Discover Health & Fitness, along with her friend Jess Colyer, even created a YouTube video showing the pair getting an "intense" outdoor workout in at Balboa Park, in heels, as they prepare for tomorrow's scavenger hunt.
