Donations of at least $100 will be engraved on the LGBT historical monument and go down in history as a supporter of the Hillcrest Pride Flag, a symbol of the LGBT community.

SAN DIEGO -- A community fundraising effort is in full swing to make the LGBT historical monument planned for the base of the Hillcrest Pride Flag a reality.

The effort is aimed at making sure that any community member who wishes to "leave their mark" on the park is able to do so with donation levels starting at $100.

Hillcrest Business Association unveils plans for LGBT historical monument

SAN DIEGO -- Several dozen community members gathered at The San Diego LGBT Community Center Thursday evening to hear the Hillcrest Business Association's (HBA) plans for the base of the Hillcrest Pride Flag.

The flag pole, which was installed last July, has swiftly become an important community landmark and HBA sought community input at the meeting as it begins work on Phase 2 of the project, which will include a LGBT historical monument at the base of the pole.

On Saturday, June 15, the Hillcrest community will host the third annual Amazing High Heel Race, in which all money raised goes to pay for the Hillcrest Pride Flag that was installed last summer, including paying down the installation costs, the continued maintenance of the flag and for the future monument project at the flag's base.

The flag has quickly become a symbol of Hillcrest and our community and it is our duty to make sure it continues to fly proud for generations to come.

Third annual Amazing High Heel Race to step off June 15 in Hillcrest

SAN DIEGO -- Girl, break in those heels! The Amazing High Heel Race is coming back into Hillcrest for it's third annual appearance on Saturday, June 15.

High-heel clad individuals will race through Hillcrest during the scavenger-hunt type event to raise funds for the continued maintenance of the Hillcrest Pride Flag.

During the race, teams will complete a numbers of "tasks" - which will be "mostly" PG-13 rated - that will take them on a journey throughout the neighborhood. At the conclusion of the race, participants will gather at Gossip Grill for an awards celebration and party.

HBA to reveal plans for LGBT historical monument at Hillcrest Pride Flag site

SAN DIEGO -- The Hillcrest Business Association (HBA) will unveil the preliminary designs and narrative for the Hillcrest Pride Monument at a community meeting on Thursday, May 16 at 5:30 pm at The San Diego LGBT Community Center.

Transgender flag flies over Hillcrest today for Transgender Day of Rememberance

SAN DIEGO – Although the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is a solemn day to honor and remember the lives of people who have died as a result of transphobia and hate, there was a hint of excitement in Hillcrest this morning as community members gathered to watch the transgender flag be raised on the Hillcrest Pride Flag pole.

TDOR has been observed in cities around the world since 1999. This year marks the 10th anniversary of San Diego’s TDOR event, which includes this morning’s flag-raising, and a candlelit vigil and ceremony tonight.

The success of the program relies heavily upon the citizens of San Diego -- public nominations and feedback about the nominations published on the "O&O" website are integral to planning, growth and future development of our city.
