TUESDAY: City Councilmember Mark Kersey to address Hillcrest Town Council

SAN DIEGO -- This month, we're excited to welcome San Diego City Councilmember Mark Kersey to Hillcrest Town Council. While it's true that Councilmember Kersey represents District 5 - an area that does not include Hillcrest - he is also the chair of the newly-formed city council Infrastructure Committee, tasked with figuring out how to tackle our City's extensive backlog of maintenance projects.

TONIGHT: Hillcrest Town Council meeting to feature Todd Gloria

SAN DIEGO -- The Hillcrest Town Council has a full agenda planned for its meeting tonight, including a presentation by San Diego City Council President Todd Gloria.

Community members and others gathered at the meeting will hear a presentation from Gloria on community issues, and will also be given the opportunity to ask questions of him. Gloria is currently in his second term on the City Council and has represented the area for five years.

Representatives from other local government offices will also be present and available to hear feedback and take questions from the audience.

San Diego County Tax Collector Dan McAllister to speak to Hillcrest Town Council

SAN DIEGO -- The county's top tax man will make a stop at this month's Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) meeting, taking place Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 6:30 pm.

All interested community members are invited to the meeting, which will feature a presentation by San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister, who will also take questions from attendees.

The meeting will also include updates from representatives of other local government offices who will be in attendance to take questions and feedback.

Hillcrest Town Council to host neighborhood cleanup on Saturday

SAN DIEGO -- The Hillcrest Clean T.E.A.M. will host its next neighborhood cleanup on Saturday, Feb. 9 - just in time for Valentine's Day.

The "I Love Hillcrest Valentine's Cleanup" will go from 9 am to noon, and volunteers should meet just south of Park Blvd. and University Ave. at 8:45 am to break up into groups.

Volunteers will sweep sidewalks and pick-up debris throughout the heaviest trafficked parts of the neighborhood.

"You never know who may show up to push a broom with you - and it's great exercise," wrote event organizers in an e-mail.

City of San Diego seeking public input on Georgia Street Bridge retrofit

SAN DIEGO -- The City of San Diego is considering a project to retrofit the Georgia Street Bridge, which crosses over University Avenue, just east of Park Boulevard. The main purpose of this retrofit is seismically related - meaning, it's being retrofitted to better handle earthquakes.

Built in 1914, the bridge, abutments, and retaining walls are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As such, input is being sought to determine how to proceed.

TONIGHT: Mayor Bob Filner to address Hillcrest Town Council

SAN DIEGO -- Mayor Bob Filner will address the Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) at the group's first meeting of the year, taking place tonight at 6:30 pm.

HTC representatives say that the mayor will speak about his vision for neighborhoods and that there will be an opportunity for participants to ask questions or voice their concerns directly to Filner.

Following Filner's presentation, representatives from other local government offices will give updates and take questions from those in attendance.

This has been the Hillcrest Town Council's (HTC) mission statement since the beginning and this column would not be complete without starting at the beginning where all the pieces of the puzzle came together. The first meeting was Jan. 9, 2007 when a very grassroots group began to put together their voice.

SANDAG seeks biking input

SAN DIEGO -- Approximately 40 representatives from major community planning and transportation groups were asked to dream big at a brainstorming workshop held Dec. 5. Organized by San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), the meeting was the first of its kind to solicit public input on updating the citywide regional bike corridor plans, including Uptown.

Final Hillcrest Town Council meeting of the year

SAN DIEGO -- The last monthly Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) meeting for 2012 will be held tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 pm. Residents and other interested individuals are encouraged to attend.

The meeting will include a number of presentations, including updates from representatives of local government offices. Meeting attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of the representatives and share issues of concern.

Carl DeMaio to speak at Hillcrest Town Council meeting

SAN DIEGO -- The Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) will host its next monthly meeting tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 9, with a presentation by City Councilmember Carl DeMaio, who is running for mayor.

DeMaio's opponent, Congressman Bob Filner, spoke to the group in August.

HTC representatives have asked DeMaio to share his vision for San Diego, and will provide attendees with the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with the candidate.
