Kansas health dept. proposal could allow for quarantine of individuals with HIV

TOPEKA, Kan. — A proposed bill in the Kansas state legislature could allow the quarantine of people with AIDS or HIV, according to an LGBT advocacy group in testimony before a Kansas state Senate panel on Thursday.

HIV-resistant cells created by Stanford researchers could protect patients from AIDS

Researchers at Stanford University have created HIV-resistant T-cells, a breakthrough that, if proven successful in humans, could potentially stop the virus from developing into AIDS.

The discovery was announced in Tuesday's issue of Molecular Therapy, and according to researchers, could replace lifelong drug treatments and protect the immune systems of those infected.

County wants laundry money back from Auntie Helen's

SAN DIEGO -- After a months-long review of how Auntie Helen’s Fluff ‘n’ Fold spent a $10,000 San Diego County grant, the North Park charity is being asked to return more than $6,000.

County finance officials made the repayment demand after they found the nonprofit did not use the money to buy or repair washing machines, as promised in the grant application process.

Instead, the county learned that Auntie Helen’s executive director Michael Dudley used $6,255 for car repairs, carpeting and other spending that was not approved.

Christie's Place in San Diego gets grant from AIDS United

WASHINGTON -- Christie's Place of San Diego is among the winners of AIDS United grants to help HIV-positive people stay in care.

Thanks to a $4 million investment by the MAC AIDS Fund and a unique partnership with AIDS United, $1 million in initial grants have been awarded to seven organizations across the U.S. to help define and expand programs that help keep HIV-positive people in care and on treatment.
