Vice President Joe Biden, Education Secretary Arne Duncan support marriage rights | VIDEO

WASHINGTON – Vice President Joe Biden stirred up a hornet’s nest Sunday when he seemingly spoke out in favor of marriage equality. Then on Monday, Education Secretary Arne Duncan also came out in favor of marriage equality.

"The good news is that as more and more Americans come to understand what this is all about is a simple proposition," Vice President Biden told host David Gregory of NBC’s “Meet The Press.”

Big money pours into North Carolina over marriage amendment

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Millions of dollars have been amassed by groups for and against North Carolina's proposed constitutional amendment to ban civil unions and marriage equality.

Christian Action League has raised $312,000 and the anti-gay hate group National Organization for Marriage has donated $303,000 to top the list of supporters of passing the amendment. Other major donors include tax software executive Phil Drake ($250,000), Roman Catholic dioceses ($100,000) and North Carolina Values Coalition ($66,000). A total of 26% of the $1.2 million raised came from individuals.

U.S. Senate candidate blasts SNDA, says it "criminalizes" teasing

A candidate for the U.S. Senate has come under fire for criticizing the Student Non-Discrimination Act, legislation meant to protect children, becuase she said it “criminalizes” teasing.

Heather Wilson, who formerly represented New Mexico’s first Congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives and is now running for the U.S. Senate, said that SNDA “is so broad that it would actually punish children, or say it’s prohibited to express an opinion with respect to homosexuality in schools.”

HRC releases brief on HIV/AIDS and the LGBT community

WASHINGTON - The Human Rights Campaign today released an issue brief framing many of the issues set to be discussed at today’s White House LGBT Conference on HIV/AIDS in Atlanta, Ga.

Dr. Grant Colfax, director of the White House Office of National AIDS Policy, and Dr. Kevin Fenton of the Centers for Disease Control will deliver remarks at this conference. It is the fourth in a series of such conferences hosted by the White House.

EA defends itself against thousands of anti-gay letters

When asked, EA confirmed that this has indeed been occurring, and unsurprisingly, EA has no plans to censor any of its games.

Rick Santorum tells boy: "Friends don't let friends use pink balls"

WASHINGTON – At a campaign event at a bowling alley in Wisconsin on Wednesday, GOP presidential hopeful Rick Santorum told a boy who reached for a pink bowling ball: “You’re not gonna use the pink ball. We're not gonna let you do that. Not on camera.”

Santorum went on to say “Friends don’t let friends use pink balls.” The comments were tweeted by Reuters reporter Sam Youngman.

Poll: Americans support Executive Order to ban anti-LGBT workplace discrimination

WASHINGTON – The Human Rights Campaign today released results of a poll that shows overwhelming support for an Executive Order to ban federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

73% of 2012 likely voters favor such an order and support remains strong regardless of age, race, education, political ideology, and a number of other demographics.

NOM documents expose strategy to “drive a wedge between gays and blacks” over marriage

WASHINGTON – A series of internal strategy documents marked “confidential” outline the National Organization for Marriage’s multi-year plan to stop marriage equality in the United States.

The documents were released late Monday by a court in Maine, where NOM successfully led a repeal of marriage equality and where NOM lost a court battle trying to keep its donor list secret from the public. Ironically, Maine voters will reconsider its marriage vote during the November presidential election.
