Inferno dances prepare to spread like Wildfire in April

SAN DIEGO -- This Saturday, April 7, 2012 the dances that have been heating up San Diego's women's community for the last few years are back again with a new spin on their previous Hot Flash and Inferno dances and it is spreading …

Wildfire! A Hot Flash Production kicks off in April with two -- believe it -- two dances to get you out of your houses and onto the dance floor.

Now labeled "a dance for queer women and our allies," this all women's dance is very inclusive.

Inferno brings dj dirtyKurty to Long Beach for dance party premiere

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- This Saturday, Oct. 22 the ladies from Hotflash Dance Parties, LLC. are launching yet another night of fabulous fun for the over 30 set.

These wildly successful, monthly dance parties take place up and down the west coast in various cities, including Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Phoenix, San Diego and now Long Beach.

The dance parties grew out of an acknowledgement that although older lesbians don't go out every night of the week, they certainly enjoy getting together to socialize and shake their groove thing on at least a monthly basis.

Up Front

Ladies, do you ever have one of those weeks when it seems like nothing is going right?

This week alone, I’ve heard horror stories from my friends about hate crime incidents that have left me mortified and disgusted.

I've also experienced problems with miscommunication, continually klutzed out and dropped things, forgot to set my alarm and woke up three hours late -- only to find life had successfully moved on without me -- and I was quite late to work.

If you have ever come out to family, friends and coworkers, you know unnerving it can be.

Will your friends be accepting?

Will your coworkers ask you a lot of questions you may or may not be prepared to answer?

Will your mother cry?

However, for all of these questions, there is one universal answer: You must be true to yourself.

The BeanScene: Taking a stab at lesbian labels

Up Front

We’ve all heard them. Many of us have been called them.

They are the labels we cling to and use to mark important moments in life; such as, my marching band nerd years from about 2000 to 2008. There are labels that bring us closer together, like best friend, girlfriend, wife. Since this is written mainly for the lesbian community, I will stick with a lesbian identifier that divides our community quite a bit: D-y-k-e, or, the "d-word."
