Just days after gloating in emails to supporters, the Stop SB 48 campaign has suddenly changed its tone and is urging its anti-gay followers to sign petitions out of fear that it will not qualify its referendum for a vote.
The campaign has until Wednesday to turn in almost 505,000 valid signatures to qualify. Up until earlier this week, the anti-gay groups were bragging that they were nearly there.
It has not been a good week for the Stop SB 48 supporters. On Oct. 3, Equality California filed a legal complaint against the groups with the Fair Political Practices Commission, arguing:
