Many of us who survived the early years of the AIDS epidemic in the USA will reflect on how difficult it was to walk through the cloud of stigma and discrimination as we reflect on World AIDS Day this weekend.

We lost many brave friends who taught us how to love fearlessly and safely. Straight allies and health care professionals began to understand LGBT more than before and that our love was good. How we cared for our partners and friends and created organizations that were open to everyone is an enduring tribute to the indomitable spirit of that difficult chapter of our lives.

RGOD2: Architect of homophobia in East Africa retiring in a “Field of Blood”

Today, June 22, more than 30 Anglican bishops will gather in Uganda to elect a new Archbishop for their 12 million members.

Archbishop Henry Luke Orombe is retiring to develop his own Orombe Foundation to have partnerships with government to “build an empowered God fearing vibrant society.” He has ambitious plans to create a $16 million education center in a country where the majority of his flock lives on less than $1 a day.

Compass to Compassion: Local editor to participate in global LGBT equality conference in NYC

NEW YORK – This week close to a hundred LGBT activists, members of the LGBT media and a group of progressive, liberal faith leaders and secular officials will gather in New York City to address LGBT rights on a global scale.

Dubbed “Compass to Compassion – discovering a common way to LGBT global equality,” the two day conference will be the third meeting of its kind.
The event will be held at the Union Theological Seminary in the Upper West Side, an organization that is affiliated with Columbia University.
