Two longtime LGBT activists honored at annual Local Heroes celebration

SAN DIEGO -- As part of its ongoing commitment to cultural diversity and responsible banking, Union Bank partnered with KPBS to honor 16 local individuals who are making a difference to enrich the lives of others, including longtime LGBT activists Jeri Dilno and Larry T. Baza.

The honorees were announced throughout 2012 as part of the Cultural Diversity Partnership, which recognizes and pays tribute to local heroes from eight diverse communities, and the year-long celebration of diversity culminated with a ceremony and reception last week, at the San Diego Natural History Museum.

First round of LGBT veterans to be inducted onto San Diego wall of honor

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego LGBT Community Center will induct the first set of LGBT veterans to the Benjamin F. Dillingham and Bridge Wilson Wall of Honor at a ceremony on Friday, Nov. 9 at 6 pm.

The wall was unveiled last November.

San Diego Pride holds first post-Pride meeting

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Pride’s governing board had their first meeting following the 28th annual Pride celebration last month. The open meeting was held at their North Park office on Aug. 15.

Local LGBT activists Larry Baza and Jeri Dilno are recognized as Local Heroes

SAN DIEGO – Longtime local gay activists Larry Baza and Jeri Dilno are being recognized as 2012 Local Heroes in an annual celebration of LGBT Pride Month sponsored by Union Bank in partnership with KPBS in San Diego.

The 2012 Local Heroes campaign is designed to celebrate and pay tribute to extraordinary members of the community who are making a difference by improving their workplace, neighborhoods, region and the world.

Dilno said it was difficult to put into a few words what the Local Heroes award means to her.

Jeri Dilno reappointed to Balboa Park Committee

SAN DIEGO – Longtime LGBT activist Jeri Dilno has been reappointed to another term on the Balboa Park Committee.

Dilno is a San Diego Democratic Club member and former SDDC president.

San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders’ nominee was confirmed by the City Council. The committee advises the mayor and City Council on policy issues relating to the acquisition, development, maintenance and operation of Balboa Park.
