"Ex-gay movement" poster boy John Paulk renounces conversion therapy, apologizes

PORTLAND, Ore. – John Paulk, the poster boy for the so-called “ex-gay movement” for a decade, has issued “A Formal Public Apology by John Paulk” and renounced conversion therapy.

Paulk founded the Love Won Out ministry through the anti-gay group Focus on Family, appeared on countless television shows and conducted numerous interviews touting that he was converted into a heterosexual man through prayer and “ex-gay therapy.”

He married an “ex-lesbian,” Anne, and they became parents of three children.

California appeals temporary hold on law banning "ex-gay" therapy for minors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Gov. Jerry Brown and the Medical Board of California have appealed a district judge’s injunction that temporarily blocks the state law banning “ex-gay” therapy for minors.

State Attorney General Kamala Harris filed the appeal on Wednesday with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco.

House resolution would protect LGBT youth from "ex-gay" therapy

WASHINGTON -- Congresswoman Jackie Speier today introduced the landmark “Stop Harming Our Kids” resolution, which calls on states to protect LGBT youth from dangerous and discredited practices by mental health professionals who falsely claim to be able to change their sexual orientation or gender identity.

These practices have been rejected as ineffective and harmful by every leading medical and mental health organization in the country.

LONDON -- Culture Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities Maria Miller has responded to a parliamentary question on gay conversion therapy by instructing Health Minister Norman Lamb to outline the government’s official position.

It was after Diane Johnson, the Labour MP for Kingston upon Hull North, asked Miller for her views on the subject in reference to counselors and psychotherapists who have sought to provide the discredited medical practice.

Creators of "Camp Revelation" exposing ex-gay therapy, seeking help to make movie | VIDEO

Director Kerstin Karlhuber and screenwriter Jack Bryant are turning to Kickstarter to rustle up $50,000 to finish their film, "Camp Revelation," an expose on the dangers of the discredited ex-gay therapy.

As of Monday morning, they had raised about $4,000 toward their goal and turned to San Diego Gay & Lesbian News to get out the word.

In Canada, gay "cure" doctor known as "Dr. Shock" arrested for sexually assaulting men

CALGARY, Canada -- Canadian psychiatrist Aubrey Levin is to stand on trial next Wednesday, in Calgary, Canada for sexually assaulting 10 male patients.

The prosecution represents gay patients, who were mostly prisoners that were assigned by the Canadian justice system for treatment.

Aubrey Levin, infamously known as "Dr. Shock," has subjected hundreds of gay and lesbian soldiers and conscientious objectors in apartheid era South Africa to electric shocks "therapy" in an attempt to "cure" them of their sexuality and "deviant" ideas.

TRENTON, N.J. -- An openly gay New Jersey lawmaker who is the father of two says he plans to introduce next week in the Assembly a bill to ban "ex-gay" therapy for minors.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California Gov. Jerry Brown made history late Saturday night by signing a landmark bill that will protect LGBT youth from psychological abuse by deceitful mental health professionals who falsely claim to be able to change their sexual orientation or gender expression.

50,000 people urge California Gov. Brown to sign bill banning "ex-gay" therapy

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Momentum is building in California and across the country to put an end to dangerous efforts designed to change a young person’s sexual orientation or gender expression that have proven to inflict great emotional harm and have resulted in suicide.

California Gov. Jerry Brown can sign Senate Bill 1172, a bill to protect young people from this abuse by prohibiting therapists from using these discredited practices.

To date, nearly 50,000 concerned citizens have signed a Human Rights Campaign petition urging the Governor to sign the bill.
