KAMPALA, Uganda – MPs have dropped the death penalty from Uganda’s draconian “Kill The Gays” bill, the BBC is reporting today.

Kosovo journalists meet with SDGLN to learn about covering LGBT news

SAN DIEGO – Five journalists from the tiny nation of Kosovo sat down with San Diego Gay & Lesbian News on Monday to learn more about covering LGBT news.

The journalists, all making their first visits to the United States, are guests of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program as well as the San Diego Diplomacy Council.

While in San Diego this week, the journalists will also visit Channel 10 News and the UT San Diego.

CBS cancels "Partners," starring openly gay actor Michael Urie

LOS ANGELES – CBS has given the ax to its freshman sitcom “Partners,” starring openly gay actor Michael Urie of “Ugly Betty” fame.

Although “Partners” debuted to respectable ratings, the audience has declined since, and CBS pulled the plug this week.

“Thanks for the love and support! Partners will always have a special place in my heart,” Urie tweeted on Friday.

Jonathan Duffy and his “Shameless Self Promotion” videos are a hoot, but you know what? He’s incredibly talented, witty and funny, and his documentary about his life as Click “The Doctor’s Wife” in rural Australia is bound to become a cult classic.

The DVD is being released today by Guest House Films and includes a director’s commentary, deleted scenes and a couple of those “Shameless Self Promotion” videos.

Gay power couple the Hearty Boys to appear at San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival

SAN DIEGO – Who doesn’t love “Classic Cocktails and Salty Snacks” and want to become the hostess with the mostess?

That’s the theme of a specialty event presented by Dan Smith and Steve McDonagh, aka the Hearty Boys of The Food Channel fame, at the ninth annual San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival from Nov. 14-18.

The Hearty Boys, who hail from Chicago, will appear from 4 to 5 pm Friday, Nov. 15, at the San Diego Wine & Culinary Center.

Uganda Speaker vows to pass “Kill The Gays” bill as “Christmas gift” to nation

KAMPALA, Uganda – The universally condemned “Kill The Gays” bill appears to be on a fast-track pace toward passage in December.

Speaker Rebecca Kadaga vows that the much-maligned Anti-Homosexuality Bill will be overwhelmingly passed by Parliament because she claims that most Ugandans are demanding the law. She told reporters that the bill’s passage would be the perfect “Christmas gift” for Ugandans.

Meet Allyson Robinson, transgender activist, OutServe-SLDN executive director | VIDEO

SAN DIEGO – Allyson Robinson, the new OutServe-SLDN executive director and well-known transgender activist, will join other LGBT veterans who will be marching this morning in San Diego’s annual Veterans Day parade.

Robinson has been visiting the West Coast over the past few days in her leadership role with the newly merged organization that serves LGBT troops and veterans. On Friday, she was the guest of honor at a San Diego fundraiser for OutServe-SLDN, and on Tuesday will be in San Francisco for another such event.

NEWS ANALYSIS: Autopsy on an election

Ten things we may have learned from the 2012 elections:

1. The culture war is over. For real. GOP strategist Karl Rove needs to tear that chapter from his playbook and burn it in the nearest fireplace. The tired old tactics of the Far Right to demonize LGBT Americans and minorities no longer work. Just look at the ballot box on Nov. 6 for proof.

Bob Filner elected mayor of San Diego

SAN DIEGO – Bob Filner won election as mayor of San Diego early today with 51% of the vote, according to preliminary results.

Carl DeMaio, whose election would have made history as the first gay Republican to take the reins of one of America’s largest cities, conceded the close race was over, during a news conference at 10 am today.

Surrounded by a group of teary-eyed supporters, DeMaio said at the conference that the city needs to begin the healing process after this tumultuous election.
