Man pleads guilty to animal neglect

SAN DIEGO — Charles Mendoza has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of PC 597(b) animal neglect for abandoning more than 30 animals at Dave’s Family Feed Store in Lemon Grove in August.

The San Diego Humane Society and SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement served a search warrant at the Feed Store after receiving complaints that the store had allegedly closed for business and several animals were left inside. More than 30 animals were seized including, 16 birds, 11 chickens, rodents, reptiles and a python snake.

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Humane Society and SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement served a search warrant at Dave’s Family Feed Store in Lemon Grove on Wednesday after receiving complaints that the store had allegedly closed for business and several animals were left inside.

More than 30 animals were seized from Dave’s Family Feed Store, 16 birds, 11 chickens, rodents, reptiles and a python snake. The animals will receive full veterinary exams and care at the San Diego Humane Society, and will remain in its care until the case is reviewed for possible prosecution.

LEMON GROVE, Calif. -- Just one week prior to the large San Diego LGBT Pride celebration, this city of approximately 26,000 people in San Diego's East County will hold its own pride event.

The second annual Lemon Grove Pride Celebration will be held Saturday, July 9 from 12-3 pm at the Lemon Grove Branch of the San Diego County Library. The festival will include LGBT art, literature and music, and a lineup of musicians, activities, and prizes.
