Hearing for suspect in beating death of Jason "Cowboy" Huggins postponed again

SAN DIEGO – The preliminary hearing for the man charged in the beating death of Jason “Cowboy” Huggins has been postponed for a second time.

Joshua James Larson, 37, has been charged with murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. He faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted.

Larson is accused of bludgeoning Huggins in the head with a rock in a canyon near the 1300 block of Washington Street in Hillcrest, where the homeless gay man was living at the time. Huggins died two weeks later on July 6.

ACTION ALERT: San Diegans to raise money for Storefront Emergency Shelter

SAN DIEGO -- Canvass For A Cause and other advocates to help homeless youth will raise money for the Storefront Emergency Shelter on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Storefront is San Diego’s only emergency shelter program for homeless, runaway and “street” youth and provides vital services to these vulnerable kids who are at risk for disease, predation, drugs and other threats that can befall young people who have no place to go.

Cowboy's tragedy illustrates plight of homeless living with HIV

SAN DIEGO – The vicious beating of Jason "Cowboy" Huggins, who suffered irreversible brain damage and died two weeks later on July 6, stunned the LGBT community in San Diego and beyond.

The horrific story spread from San Diego to all parts of the U.S. and even abroad. But the hidden tragedy was that Cowboy was homeless and HIV-positive, living in a place hailed as America’s Finest City.

VIDEO: Grammy winner Matt Alber, performing Monday in San Diego, to aid LGBT youth programs

SAN DIEGO -- Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Matt Alber will kick off his five-city tour in San Diego, and he will be helping out LGBT youth programs along the way.

Alber, who will perform at the Soda Bar in America’s Finest City on Monday, May 16, said he was kicked out of his own home when he was just 17 for being gay.
