Mexico begins accepting gay blood donations

New blood donation regulations screening donors based on sexual history rather than sexual orientation have been implemented in Mexico, making it the first country in North America to end its ban on men who have sex with men donating blood.

The new regulations came into effect Dec. 25 and now means any HIV and Hepatitis negative gay or bisexual man who has a history of safe sex and is not a sex worker or injecting drug user may donate blood.

The rule was approved in August and then published in the Official Journal of the Mexican Federation on October 26.

The new client educational resource – LGBT On Your Terms – is available to help same-sex couples understand the factors that are likely to affect their family's finances and long-term plans.

Model sentenced to 25 years to life for grisly murder of celebrity journalist

A judge in Manhattan has sentenced Renato Seabra, a former Portuguese underwear model, to 25 years to life in prison for the the grisly murder of celebrity journalist Carlos Castro in a New York hotel last year.

The owner of Annapolis' iconic old-fashioned trolleys that are often synonymous with the city's wedding scene, said he is abandoning the wedding industry, rather than be forced to serve same-sex couples when Marylard's marriage equality law takes effect next month.

Mission Hills Farmers' Market on hiatus

Lambda Legal has been selected by GuideStar USA’s Philanthropedia as the top-ranked nonprofit group standing up for LGBT equality.

Experts working in the LGBT sector were asked to recommend up to four nonprofits making significant contributions in LGBT equality and support on the national level and up to three nonprofits making a significant contribution at the state and local levels.

SANDAG seeks biking input

SAN DIEGO -- Approximately 40 representatives from major community planning and transportation groups were asked to dream big at a brainstorming workshop held Dec. 5. Organized by San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), the meeting was the first of its kind to solicit public input on updating the citywide regional bike corridor plans, including Uptown.

SAN DIEGO -- Revivals is holding its annual "After Christmas Sale" - today, Dec. 26 - with all donated merchandise available for 50% off its original price.

With several stores in the Palm Springs area and one in Hillcrest, proceeds from the sale of merchandise at Revivals benefits the Desert AIDS Project, which provides medical care and comprehensive support services to people living with HIV/AIDS in the desert community.

The Hillcrest location opened in early 2011, and has provided support for community organizations in both San Diego and the desert area.
