Gay weddings start in Washington state

SEATTLE – Gay and lesbian couples flocked to city halls and courthouses on Sunday to get married, as Washington state celebrated its first day of marriage equality.

In Seattle, Mayor Mike McGinn was all smiles, welcoming couples to City Hall and congratulating newlyweds. “It’s a great day, a joyous day,” he said.

Strangers who wanted to be part of the historical moment handed out flowers to the newlyweds and shouted out their congratulations.

People showered the steep steps of City Hall with rose petals and rice in celebration.

Lady Gaga applauds Russian PM, who disses "gay propaganda" bill

Lady Gaga today took to Twitter to thank Russia's prime minister for saying that the nation did not need to pass a bill that would prohibit "gay propaganda."

Although similar bills have been passed in St. Petersburg and other Russian cities, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev told the media this week that such a draconian law went too far:

"Not every moral issue, behavioral habit or communication issue between people should be regulated. This is why not all relationships between people are subject to a legal interpretation.

Minnesota governor: I would sign marriage-equality bill

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Gov. Mark Dayton said this week that he would sign a marriage-equality bill into law should one ever hit his desk.

Minnesotans last month rejected Proposition 32, which would have added a state constitutional ban against same-sex marriage.

Dayton told Minnesota Public Radio that is was not sure whether the state Legislature would take up the issue.

Sen. Marco Rubio: You homosexuals are sinners, but I don't judge

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), already mentioned as a possible GOP presidential candidate for 2016, said he believes homosexuality is a sin, but that he does not "pass judgement."

"I can tell you what faith teaches and faith teaches that it is," said Rubio, when asked by Politico’s Mike Allen earlier this week if homosexuality is a sin.
