Widener Law professor John G. Culhane has co-authored a new book in the “Dummies” line of publications that will serve as a legal resource for people in same-sex relationships.

“Same-Sex Legal Kit for Dummies,” published by John Wiley & Sons, is a compilation of useful information on everything from financial and estate planning to wills and trusts to employment benefits and the tax consequences of being in a domestic partnership.

Some novels don’t translate well to the stage. Jon Jory’s new adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Persuasion,” now in its world premiere at OnStage Playhouse, may be one of them.

Todd Gloria elected San Diego City Council president

SAN DIEGO -- Councilmember Todd Gloria today was unanimously elected president of the San Diego City Council, as the city celebrated the inauguration of Mayor Bob Filner.

Gloria, who is openly gay, represents District 3 that includes the LGBT-dominated areas of Hillcrest and North Park. The redrawing of council districts also means that Gloria represents Downtown.

LONDON -- Since taking to the floor on "Strictly Come Dancing," Olympic gymnast Louis Smith says he’s become a gay icon.

Smith, 23, who won silver on the Pommel Horse at this year’s London 2012 Olympic Games, says he’s now receiving greater attention from woman and men due to his participation in the BBC’s celebrity dance show.

The athlete, who is straight, claims his stint on the show has given him a whole new legion of male fans.

“I get lots of attention from females as well as males,” Smith told the Mirror. “It’s a bit strange. ­Apparently I’m a bit of a gay icon.”
