(Editor's note: President Barack Obama hosted a reception in the East Room of the White House on Friday to observe LGBT Pride Month. Guests included LGBT community leaders, students, politicians and servicemembers. In his remarks, the President said that great progress has been made, but that the battle is not yet over. Here are Obama's full remarks.)

California governor issues proclamation declaring June LGBT Pride Month

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Our nation was founded on the principle of equal rights for all people, but the fulfillment of this promise has been long in coming for many Americans. Some of the most inspiring moments in our history have arisen from the various civil rights movements that have brought one group after another from the margins to the mainstream of American society.

VIDEO: President Obama speaks at LGBT Pride Month reception at White House

Editor’s note: President Barack Obama spoke to LGBT civil rights leaders from 6:00 to 6:10 pm EDT Wednesday, June 29, in the East Room at the White House. The remarks were supposed to have been broadcast online at White House Live, but that did not occur. The White House said the pool broadcaster did not have the capacity to broadcast online. However, you can watch a video of the speech below as well as read his remarks.
