America’s Finest City Softball League (AFCSL), San Diego’s only LGBT softball league, is now welcoming new players!

With three free Player Recruitment days coming up in the month of February, there are plenty of opportunities to come out and join over 500 LGBT athletes of varying skill levels, from beginning to advanced.

Color Me Rad to bring a "blitzkrieg of color" to runners and Downtown this weekend

Women's softball World Series needs volunteers for upcoming San Diego tourney

SAN DIEGO -- The Amateur Sports Alliance of North America (ASANA) is bringing its annual World Series women's softball championship to San Diego, August 20-25, 2012 and they need some local help.

Created in 1997 with both men and women's teams, the sports non-profit split from the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAA) ten years later and took only the women players. It currently boasts 26 participating cities across the country.

Women's Softball World Series comes to San Diego in August

SAN DIEGO -- In August, an expected 75 competitive women's softball teams are expected to descend upon San Diego when the Amateur Sports Alliance of North America (ASANA) holds its annual Softball World Series here.

Called "San Diego Happens: ASANA 2012," the yearly championship tournament will take place August 21-25, 2012.

Olympic wrestler marries her girlfriend in Iowa after making the team

CEDAR RAPIDS, Ia -- Less than 48 hours after making the United States Olympic wrestling team in front of 13,000 fans, Stephany Lee arrived at the wedding chapel in a Ford Explorer carrying Colorado plates and a small entourage. She changed into jeans and a striped shirt. Beaming, she made her way to an altar sitting in front of five rows of padded pews.

Gay sports figures in the UK to carry Olympic torch

UNITED KINGDOM -- 7,300 torch-bearers were named this morning and will carry the flame for 70 days and 8,000 through the UK in July ahead of the opening of the Olympics on 27 July.

Chris Basiurski, Chair of the Gay Football Supporters’ Network said of being nominated: “I am delighted and humbled at being chosen to carry the Olympic flame. For many years LGBT footballers have been on the fringes of society and at the GFSN we have worked hard to send out the message that football is for all regardless of sexual orientation.

LGBT Sports Profile: Jennine Estes - trapeze trickster

This week's LGBT Sports profile shines a light on Jennine Estes, a daring young woman who takes her flying trapeze very seriously.

Estes grew up in Antioch, Calif., just an hour east of San Francisco.

When she came to San Diego for college 15 years ago, she loved it so much, she never left.

This active member of our community is busier than ever.

Estes runs a thriving counseling practice in Mission Valley, is happily taken, and recently moved to the Mission Hills area of San Diego, where she "loves every bit of it."

This week's LGBT Sports Profile is Seth Silvernail, who enjoys sports so much he spends a lot of time running around and keeping busy with two organized sports leagues in San Diego.

Originally from Petaluma, Calif., Seth has lived in San Diego for 12 years. He is currently single and resides in the University Heights neighborhood.
