SDSU honors LGBT graduates at third annual Lavender Graduation

SAN DIEGO – As the end of the academic year approaches, San Diego State University (SDSU) held its third annual Lavender Graduation Celebration on Tuesday, to honor some of the school’s LGBT and ally graduates.

Nearly 100 people attended the afternoon ceremony, held in a ballroom in the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center, including graduates, their family, friends, and other special guests. Over 30 students participated in the ceremony and received a rainbow “honor cord,” a certificate, and a chance to address the crowd.

SDSU to offer extended studies course on LGBT political movements

SAN DIEGO -- The LGBT community has a rich history of activism and the struggle for equality has become recognized as one of the biggest civil rights movements of modern time.

A number of academic programs have popped up across the nation to study the LGBT community, including at San Diego State University (SDSU), which allows students the option to minor in LGBT studies and will soon launch a major in the same discipline.

Through the university's College of Extended Studies, members of the public will have the opportunity to take a short course to study LGBT political movements.

SDSU receives national "five-star" LGBT-friendly campus rating again

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- San Diego State University (SDSU) continues to shine as a safe haven for LGBT students, receiving a five-star rating for the second year in a row from Campus Pride.

The region's oldest, largest university joined 32 other schools from across the nation that received the highest "gay-friendly" rating the index offers.

SDSU engages the campus community with "Pledge Diversity" program

SAN DIEGO -- As the San Diego State University (SDSU) community celebrates men's basketball victories and continues its search for university President Stephen Weber's replacement, the campus Office of Diversity has started a campaign intended to foster an environment that supports, appreciates and respects diversity.

"Pledge Diversity" is a diversity and inclusion series, created by the school's Office of the President and Associated Students (AS), that calls upon the campus community to action in their commitment to creating a safer and more inclusive campus.
