The conference is known to be the only event of its type focused on LGBTQIA youth.

Family announces foundation to combat bullying in wake of Jadin Bell’s death

LA GRANDE, Ore. — Speaking before a crowd of about 200 people Wednesday, the father of an Oregon teen who died Sunday after he hanged himself two weeks earlier, said that he loved his gay son, and accepted him for who he was.

“I think we need more of that,” said Joe Bell, whose 15-year-old son, Jadin, had been bullied before trying to take his life.

LA GRANDE, Ore. — Jadin Bell, a 15-year-old gay teen who hanged himself two weeks ago after complaining of bullying, died Sunday afternoon at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital on Portland.

Jadin was taken off life support more than a week ago after tests showed no brain activity.

Parents: School "mishandled" situation that led to their son's suicide

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah -- The parents of 14-year-old David Phan, an openly gay student who shot and killed himself in front of horrified classmates on November 29, are speaking out and accusing school officials of "mishandling" the situation that led to their son's death.

Phan, an eighth grader, had been suspended from Bennion Junior High in this southern Salt Lake City suburb, for bringing a condom to school, according to his parents.

Parents say anti-gay bullying is to blame for son's suicide

FENTON, Mich. -- The parents of a Michigan high school student who took his own life last week believe anti-gay bullying is to blame.

Josh Pacheco, 17, committed suicide on Nov. 27. His mother, Lynnette Capehart, said that Josh was gay, which led to him being bullied both inside and outside of school, reported MLive.
