Producer of "A Marine Story" has cancer, no insurance

JD Disalvatore, a fixture in LGBT cinema culture having produced such instant classics as "A Marine Story," "Shelter," "Elena Undone" and "Eating Out 2," was diagnosed with cancer last week.

The doctors found four large lumps in both breast as well as masses in other areas of the body.She will undergo a double mastectomy and then faces six months of chemotherapy.

As a freelance filmmaker, she is without medical insurance as she faces an expensive battle ahead.

This is where her friends have stepped in.

VIDEOS: What's showing Friday at FilmOut's LGBT Film Festival

SAN DIEGO -- FilmOut San Diego's 13th annual LGBT Film Festival continues for the second and final weekend, kicking off today with screenings starting at noon at the historical Birch North Park Theatre.

The film festival will conclude Sunday night with an after-party from 10 pm to midnight at Urbn Coal Fired Pizza in North Park, a short walk from the theater.
