America’s most high-profile Catholic official, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, says that gays and lesbians are “entitled to friendship” with each other, but that “sexual love” is intended only between a man and a woman.

SAN DIEGO – Readers of San Diego Gay & Lesbian News who took our poll are split on their expectations of how the U.S. Supreme Court will rule on marriage equality.

Our poll question was: How will the Supreme Court rule on marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples?

The results, which are not scientific, reveal that 48% of readers think that the high court will provide marriage rights to all, 45% predict that the justices will grant limited marriage rights, and 7% believe that the Supreme Court will deny marriage rights for all.

In a new interview with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer, singer and actress Marie Osmond — the only daughter of nine children in the famed Mormon show business family — says she supports marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples.

Osmond, whose oldest daughter Jessica is lesbian, says, “My daughter deserves everything that she desires,” including marriage.

Thirty years ago, it would have been difficult to imagine the excitement and attention around the U.S. Supreme Court’s review of same gender marriages when some clergy were (illegally) blessing unions, marrying and doing all kinds of imaginative house blessings for gay and lesbian couples.
