SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- In response to the support for artist Martin Duvander's LGBT-themed “Rainbow Crosswalks” exhibit, James Gray Gallery has decided to extend the exhibition through Sunday, Nov. 11.

Duvander's artwork was inspired by the City of West Hollywood’s crosswalks that were painted the colors of the rainbow flag earlier this year, a project he championed that has since received worldwide attention.

Capturing a street art vibe blended with classical abstractism, “Rainbow Crosswalks” includes mixed media paintings of LGBT luminaries and the equality movement.

Art show to celebrate West Hollywood's rainbow crosswalks

West Hollywood's rainbow crosswalks to be made permanent

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – The rainbow-colored crosswalks that garnered national attention in June will become permanent fixtures, thanks to a recent decision by the West Hollywood City Council.

The proposal was brought to the city by Los Angeles-based artist Martin Duvander, who says he wrote to West Hollywood officials in April with the suggestion. “I saw those white crosswalks as an empty canvas and saw an opportunity to paint them and make a statement,” Duvander said.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- The rainbow, which has become the most prominent symbol of the LGBT pride movement, is displayed in all sorts of forms, such as on flags, accessories, stickers, murals and clothing. But one West Hollywood man wants to take it a step further by painting the city's crosswalks in rainbow colors during the 2012 Los Angeles Pride celebration, taking place next weekend.

Martin Duvander, an artist, wrote to the West Hollywood City Council on April 19 with his idea.
