San Diego Pride's 2013 Spirit of Stonewall honorees

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Pride today announced its 2013 Spirit of Stonewall Award winners, who will be honored at the Spirit of Stonewall Rally, taking place Friday, July 12 at 6 pm, at the Hillcrest Pride Flag.

The annual awards are designed to honor individuals and organizations that have made a positive impact on San Diego’s LGBT community.

Nominations for the awards were received from the San Diego community and the list of recipients follows:

North County LGBTQ Resource Center's Max Disposti honored by local NAACP

SAN DIEGO -- North County LGBTQ Resource Center Executive Director Max Disposti was awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Award by the North San Diego County NAACP at a ceremony held Monday, Jan. 21. The award acknowledges outstanding civic leaders in the community, and is handed out at the NAACP’s annual community prayer breakfast.

North County update: Fourth annual GSA Awards a huge success

In early November, Project Youth, a committee of the North County LGBTQ Resource Center (The Center), presented the fourth annual GSA Awards, hosted at the California State University, San Marcos Pride Center.

From the Gay-Straight Alliance network: “A Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is a student-run club, typically in a high school or middle school, which provides a safe place for students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, and work to end homophobia and transphobia.”

Interfaith Council of North County launched

Being an LGBT person of faith in some geographical areas can be very difficult. Only a few years ago, finding a supportive LGBT church or congregation in North County would have cost you some research time. Today, a diverse range of interfaith communities are stepping up to make sure their messages can be heard everywhere.

New North County LGBTQ Resource Center seeks volunteers

OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- As preparations for the December opening of the North County LGBTQ Resource Center continue, the board of directors has announced a meeting for those interested in volunteering at the new space. The meeting will be held this Friday, Oct. 28 at 6:30 pm.

Earlier this month, the board of directors of the North County LGBTQ Resource Center (formerly the North County LGBT Coalition) announced that they had signed a lease for a permanent facility, located at 510 North Coast Highway in Oceanside.

Dear Friends,

Saturday, July 23, 2011 was a historic day for our North County LGBT community and families. The North County LGBT Coalition board members had a day-long retreat to discuss the future of the organization.

Thanks to your financial support and trust through the past few years, our leadership is now ready to move forward with the creation of a North County LGBT Center. In the next few months, we will transition from the North County LGBT Coalition into our new entity where new leadership and participation will be needed.

VIDEO: Fundraisers planned to benefit proposed LGBT center for San Diego's North County

OCEANSIDE -- A pair of events will be held on Friday, May 20, in honor of Harvey Milk Day, to benefit the North County LGBT Coalition's drive to create a LGBT center in the northern part of San Diego County.

Stuart Milk, nephew of Harvey Milk, will be the featured guest at the "Imagine" fundraiser at the Oceanside Museum of Art. The event, which will begin at 6 pm, will include hors d'oeuvres and drinks, a silent auction, entertainment and special presentations.
