Carl DeMaio to speak at Hillcrest Town Council meeting

SAN DIEGO -- The Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) will host its next monthly meeting tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 9, with a presentation by City Councilmember Carl DeMaio, who is running for mayor.

DeMaio's opponent, Congressman Bob Filner, spoke to the group in August.

HTC representatives have asked DeMaio to share his vision for San Diego, and will provide attendees with the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with the candidate.

U-T San Diego: Irwin Jacobs endorses DeMaio

SAN DIEGO -- One of San Diego’s most influential Democrats — Qualcomm co-founder Irwin Jacobs — has endorsed Republican City Councilman Carl DeMaio for mayor, according to the DeMaio campaign.

DeMaio, who is running against Democratic Rep. Bob Filner in the Nov. 6 election, has repeatedly said on the campaign trail that he is building a broad-based coalition of Democrats, Republicans and independents that support his candidacy. Up until now, he hasn’t had a high-profile Democrat in the fold to back up that campaign theme.

U-T San Diego: Jerry Sanders to endorse Carl DeMaio for mayor

SAN DIEGO -- Mayor Jerry Sanders, who has often butted heads with City Councilman Carl DeMaio over the years, plans to endorse DeMaio to be his successor in the race for San Diego mayor, according to a source.

The decision by the popular Sanders will likely be a boost for DeMaio with 41 days left until the election. DeMaio, a Republican like Sanders, is vying against Democratic Rep. Bob Filner for the job.

Sanders is expected to make the formal announcement at a 12:15 p.m. news conference at Harbor Island Park.
