PORTLAND, Texas -- The lone survivor of a shooting that left her girlfriend dead in a South Texas park says she has learned that “life is so fragile” and she thanks those who are praying for her, noting it has sped up her recovery, in some of the first comments posted to her Facebook page since the attack three months ago.

PORTLAND, Texas -- Police have released a sketch of a suspect in the shooting of a South Texas couple that left one dead and another wounded last month.

With help from a witness, Portland police described the alleged gunman as a skinny male in his 20s, weighing 140 pounds. The sketch was released late Wednesday.

Mary Kristene Chapa, 18, and Mollie Judith Olgin, 19, were both found June 23 in a park with gunshot wounds to the head. Olgin died from her injuries and Chapa remains hospitalized.

SAN DIEGO -- In response to the shooting of two young lesbians in Portland, Texas last weekend, San Diego Remembers will host a brief vigil at the site of the John Wear Hate Crimes Memorial Plaque in Hillcrest on Tuesday, July 3, at 8 pm.

Mollie Judith Olgin, 19, and Mary Kristene Chapa, 18 were found Saturday in a nature area knee-deep in grass, and are believed to have been shot nine hours earlier. The shooting claimed the life of Olgin, and Chapa remains in serious but stable condition following emergency surgery.

PORTLAND, Texas -- Two teenage girls in a relationship were found with gunshot wounds to the head in a south Texas park, with one of them dying from her injuries, media reports say. Police were searching for the gunman.

Mollie Judith Olgin, 19, and Mary Christine Chapa, 18, were found in knee-deep grass in a park in Portland by a couple early Saturday, the Corpus Christi Caller Times said, citing Portland Police Chief Randy Wright.

Olgin, of Flour Bluff, died; Chapa, of Sinton, was rushed to a hospital where she had surgery and was in serious but stable condition on Sunday.
