National Stonewall Democrats "on hiatus," and San Diego Democrats for Equality "doing well"

National Stonewall Democrats (NSD), saddled with an estimated $30,000 deficit, suspended operations on Jan. 1 with plans to relaunch in 2014.

Jerame Davis, the group’s executive director since December 2011, told the Dallas Voice on Monday that the political organization is likely “on hiatus” for the rest of 2013.

Davis said a new board would be elected in 2013 with the goal of rebuilding the organization. He noted that Stonewall Democrats have no chapters in 23 states.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A political advertisement in the current issue of the Florida Agenda, an LGBT weekly newspaper distributed throughout central and south Florida, and paid for by the Broward (County) Log Cabin Republicans of Florida, attacked Democrats and President Barack Obama — using an image of the lifeless body of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens in the aftermath of last month’s attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya.

Attention voters: LGBT Americans face wide-sweeping inequalities

WASHINGTON — With the presidential election a mere two months away, the stakes are high for the estimated nine million LGBT Americans whose daily lives are limited by a lack of federal protections.

According to a new publication released today, most LGBT Americans live in a two-tier system where they must navigate conflicting state laws with the federal government’s refusal to offer the most basic securities, such as employment non-discrimination and
anti-bullying protections.

Stonewall Democrats laud record LGBT participation expected at Democratic National Convention

WASHINGTON -- National Stonewall Democrats (NSD) said today it has identified at least 534 official LGBT participants for the 2012 Democratic National Convention next week in Charlotte, N.C.

This record number of participants represents a marked increase in LGBT participation from four years ago in Denver where just over 350 LGBT participants were identified.

NEWTON, Mass. – Rep. Barney Frank, perhaps the most prominent gay politician in Washington, today announced that he will not stand for re-election.

The longtime Democrat, who has served 16 terms in Congress, has been a liberal fixture on Capitol Hill for more than three decades. Frank made his mark in the House for his efforts to reform Wall Street.

LGBT leaders to attend White House reception honoring Pride Month

WASHINGTON – More than 150 gay civil rights leaders from across the U.S. will be attending the official White House LGBT Pride Reception today in the East Room.

President Barack Obama will address the crowd, which will include Craig Roberts of San Diego, who currently is head of the National Stonewall Democrats.

Also at the reception will be Ashley Davalos, representing GLSEN San Diego, according to Colin Pearce.

Barney Frank to reintroduce Employment Non-Discrimination Act in Congress

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Barney Frank this morning said he planned reintroduced the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would prohibit workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

ENDA would make it illegal under federal law for employers with at least 15 workers to discriminate against, harass or fire anyone because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
