TODAY: San Diegans to dine out in support of The Center's HIV/AIDS services

SAN DIEGO -- More than 100 restaurants, bars, and coffeehouses are participating in Dining Out For Life, an annual fundraiser in support the San Diego LGBT Community Center's HIV/AIDS services.

Participating venues pledge to donate at least 25% of the day's sales to the cause, making it very easy for diners to participate - all they have to do is show up and dine out!

Rich's legend Nicholas "DJ Nikno" Moede wants to take a bite out of the Big Apple

SAN DIEGO -- They say it's never too late to follow your dreams, and Nicholas Moede, popular owner of Rich's nightclub and longtime LGBT activist, will leave San Diego this month to pursue schooling in music production.

Moede, who has owned Rich's for seven years and is known by many of his friends and fans as "DJ Nikno," will be heading to New York City to see where a career in the music business might take him.

While some have wondered what will happen to the nightclub after Moede's departure, he said that there is no reason to worry as he will continue to be the owner.

Community invited to bid farewell to Rich's Nikno on Saturday night

SAN DIEGO -- Rich's San Diego will host a special going-away party for the club's long-time owner and resident DJ, Nicholas Moede, Saturday night.

Moede, who is known by many of his fans and the club's customers as Nikno, will be moving to New York City next month to attend a school for music production.

Hillcrest Pride Flag to fly high after ceremony Friday night

SAN DIEGO – After months of planning, fundraising and hard work, a rainbow flag will finally fly permanently over Hillcrest.

Friday at 6:30 pm, the Hillcrest Pride Flag will be raised for the first time during a special ceremony that will kick off “America’s Pride” weekend in San Diego. Community members who attend San Diego Pride’s annual Spirit of Stonewall Rally, which will be held on Harvey Milk and Normal streets in Hillcrest, will be able to witness the flag’s first official raising at the end of the program.

BREAKING NEWS: Planning commission rejects Hillcrest Pride Flag project, but City Council to make final decision

SAN DIEGO – The City of San Diego’s Planning Commission today voted 4-2 to not recommend the Hillcrest Business Association (HBA) application to install a 65-foot Pride flagpole at the intersection of Normal Street and University Avenue, but the project could still obtain the approval of the City Council.

The proposal calls for a rainbow flag to fly year-round on the flagpole, which is in the heart of the gayborhood and near The Center.

ACTION ALERT: Community members encouraged to speak out in favor of Hillcrest Pride Flag project

SAN DIEGO – The Uptown Planners will make a recommendation on the Hillcrest Pride Flag project at its meeting at 6pm Tuesday, Feb. 7.

The board provides advisory recommendations to the City of San Diego regarding land use and projects in the Uptown Community Plan area, which includes most of the Hillcrest, Mission Hills, Bankers Hill and Park West neighborhoods.

Limited pre-sale passes available for "MASSIVE" New Year's weekend at Rich's

SAN DIEGO – A limited number of pre-sale tickets are left for the New Year's weekend celebrations at Rich’s nightclub.

Nicholas Moede, owner of Rich’s, says that only 300 presale passes will be sold and he expects that they will sell out. For $20, pass holders will get front of the line entry to the Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening events at the nightclub – three parties for the price of one.
