Japanese gay porn star Masaki Koh dies at age 29

TOKYO – Popular Japanese gay porn star and LGBT advocate Koh Masaki died on Saturday, May 18, of complications from surgeries. He was 29.

Masaki’s partner Tien Tien reported his death on the actor’s website. Tien said that Masaki “was receiving treatments from a ruptured cecal (which is considered the beginning of the large instestine) due to peritonitis and has had surgery several times since last month.”

Famed DJ Peter Rauhofer dies at age 48

NEW YORK – Internationally known DJ, remixer, producer and label owner Peter Rauhofer has died of complications related to brain cancer, his manager reported on Facebook today. He was 48.

Today the music industry has lost one of its true heroes.

With a heavy heart I must now report that Peter Rauhofer has lost his battle with brain cancer.

He passed quietly today and is survived by his mother, Helga, who resides in Austria.

Rugby club to pay tribute to slain architect Graham Downes

SAN DIEGO – Friends who played rugby with famed architect Graham Downes, who died Sunday at age 55, plan to honor him on Saturday between matches.

The tribute is being organized by the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC) rugby team, of which Graham Downes was once a member and a player.

Short speeches will be given at 1 pm Saturday the Little Q in the old Chargers practice field at the southwest corner of the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot at 9449 Friars Road in San Diego.

SAN DIEGO – Well-known architect Graham Downes died Sunday of injuries sustained late last week when he was assaulted outside his home in Bankers Hill, his company said. Downes was 55.

Downes was known for his work on the Hard Rock Hotel, Bali Hai restaurant on Shelter Island, Tower 23 Hotel, Palomar Hotel, Charlotte Russe, Hivehaus, and other urban transformations in East Village and Barrio Logan.

Van Cliburn, America's greatest classical pianist, dies at age 78

FORT WORTH, Texas – Van Cliburn, the American classical pianist who stunned the world in 1958 by winning the gold medal in the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow during the height of the Cold War, died today of bone cancer. He was 78.

Van Cliburn, at age 23, performed Tchaikovsky’s “Concerto No. 1” in the international competition and earned an astounding eight-minute standing ovation from the Russian audience. It would become his trademark selection.

Charlie Morgan, fighter for LGBT military equality, succumbs to cancer

Charlie Morgan, a Chief Warrant Officer of the New Hampshire National Guard and a plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), died Sunday after a long battle with breast cancer, according to a statement by OutServe-SLDN.

Gay porn star Arpad Miklos dies at age 45 | VIDEO

NEW YORK – Internationally known gay porn star Arpad Miklos was found dead in his apartment on Sunday, according to several online sources. He was 45.

Born on Sept. 11, 1967 in Hungary, the former chemist born Peter Kozma was discovered by the Kristen Bjorn porn studio in 1995. He moved to the U.S. shortly after that, putting together a successful career in gay porn for about 15 years. He made almost 60 films.

It is with great sadness that we inform you that our friend and leader, NLGJA President Michael Triplett, passed away today after a courageous battle with cancer.

Frontiers co-publisher dies

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Mark Hundahl, co-publisher of Frontiers magazine, died Dec. 26 of lung cancer.

He was a leading straight ally of the LGBT community for most of his life.

Hundahl and co-publisher David Stern bought Frontiers in 2007, and the magazine is distributed from Los Angeles to San Diego, reaching a biweekly audience of about 35,000.

In 2008, Hundahl founded Passport Consulting to explore business opportunities in China.

In 2010, Hundahl and Stern bought 50% interest in WeHo News, but that partnership dissolved within six months.

Early marriage equality advocate Richard Adams dies

Richard Adams, an early pioneer in the fight for marriage equality for gays and lesbians, died Dec. 17 in the Hollywood home he shared with Anthony Sullivan, his partner of 43 years, his attorney said Sunday. Adams was 65.

Adams and Sullivan made history nearly four decades ago when they became one of the first gay couples in the country to be granted a marriage license.
