Man, separated by family from his partner of 34 years, hopes for reunion

STROUD, Okla. — A Texas man is speaking out after being separated since 2011 from his partner of more than three decades, in hopes that other gay couples will learn from his ordeal and take the legal steps necessary to prevent hostile interference from others.

Jim Heath and Lon Watts shared 34 years together, and instead of enjoying their golden years in retirement, they have been forcibly ripped apart, first by illness and then by family members.

Mike Reynolds drafted and began floating legislation to force the Oklahoma National Guard to reinstate "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," an outdated policy that has been declared unconstitutional in federal court, declared harmful and unnecessary by our nation's senior defense leaders, and voted out by a large bipartisan majority of members of Congress.

WASHINGTON -- The Human Rights Campaign is joining The Equality Network in condemning legislation Oklahoma state Rep. Mike Reynolds (R-Oklahoma City) is pushing that would implement a more extreme version of the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) law, which would be applicable to the state’s National Guard.

The bill would ban gay, lesbian and bisexual people from serving in the Oklahoma National Guard.

ACTION ALERT: Call Oklahoma lawmakers and denounce Sally Kern’s anti-gay remarks

WASHINGTON – The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is calling on Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin and the state’s top lawmakers to denounce dangerous anti-gay remarks state Sen. Sally Kern (pictured on the left) recently made while promoting her new book.

In an interview, Kern said young people learn that homosexuality is “normal and natural” because they’re “bombarded” with it every day. As a result, Kern claims, homosexuality presents a bigger threat to the United States than terrorism.
