SAN DIEGO -- The clock is ticking down to the repeal of the U.S. military’s discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Policy,” which takes effect at midnight tonight (Tuesday, Sept. 20).
Advocates of open service as well as the Pentagon are expecting the policy change will have little impact on the military, which has undergone extensive training on what to expect when gay and lesbian troops will be able to serve their country without hiding in the closet. The U.S. becomes the 30th country to allow open service, joining the likes of Canada, Germany, Israel and the United Kingdom.
