Mitt Romney picks Paul Ryan as running mate: Both oppose equal rights

Presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney today said he has picked conservative Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) as his running mate against President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.

Ryan is chairman of the House Budget Committee and a member of the House Ways and Means Committee.

LGBT rights groups and their allies quickly noted that Ryan, with only one exception, has voted consistently against equal rights.

Senate panel hears testimony on ENDA

WASHINGTON – A Senate panel today conducted a hearing on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which is a crucial piece of legislation that would provide workplace fairness and equality.

This morning’s hearing featured testimony from:

* M. V. Lee Badgett, research director of the Williams Institute for Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy at UCLA and director of the Center for Public Policy and Administration at the University of Massachusetts Amherst

* Kylar Broadus, founder, Trans People of Color Coalition
