Philadelphia City Council approves landmark LGBT equality bill

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia City Council on Thursday approved a landmark LGBT equality bill that provides tax incentives to private employers who extend insurance to the same-sex partners of their employees, and strengthens legal rights and protections for LGBT citizens.

WASHINGTON — San Diego, known affectionately as America’s Finest City, lives up to that reputation in the HRC’s first-ever Municipal Equality Index.

The groundbreaking index, released today, is a rating system designed to measure LGBT inclusion in municipal law.

“I'm proud that the entire nation knows that San Diego stands for equality," San Diego City Councilmember Todd Gloria said today.

Philly lawmaker introduces bill to ban reparative therapy for minors

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Rep. Babette Josephs (D-Philadelphia) has introduced a bill that would ban mental health providers from offering "gay-to-straight" reparative therapy for minors.

San Diego ranks as fifth richest city in America

SAN DIEGO – America’s Finest City is rated as one of the richest cities in America, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

San Diego ranks No. 5 in the nation with a median household income of $61,000.

San Jose took the top spot, with $77,000 in median income. San Francisco was No. 2 with $70,000 in median income, followed by Washington, D.C. with $63,000 in median income and Seattle with $61,000 in median income.

Philadelphia to name street after "mother" of gay rights

(Editor's note: San Diego renamed Blaine Avenue in Hillcrest as Harvey Milk Street on May 22, 2012, in honor of the gay-rights pioneer. Washington, D.C. has renamed a street as Frank Kameny Way in honor of another LGBT pioneer. The trend continues.)

SAN DIEGO -- A screening of the film “Philadelphia” and a gala later this week will benefit a new grass-roots group called the ArcHIVe Project.

The film will be shown on Friday, May 20, at the Birch North Park Theatre, followed immediately by a gala at the Sunset Temple Ballroom nearby.
