San Diego scores 100 on HRC's first-ever Municipal Equality Index

WASHINGTON — San Diego, known affectionately as America’s Finest City, lives up to that reputation in the HRC’s first-ever Municipal Equality Index.

The groundbreaking index, released today, is a rating system designed to measure LGBT inclusion in municipal law.

“I'm proud that the entire nation knows that San Diego stands for equality," San Diego City Councilmember Todd Gloria said today.

Sketch of suspect released in shooting of Texas teen lesbian couple

PORTLAND, Texas -- Police have released a sketch of a suspect in the shooting of a South Texas couple that left one dead and another wounded last month.

With help from a witness, Portland police described the alleged gunman as a skinny male in his 20s, weighing 140 pounds. The sketch was released late Wednesday.

Mary Kristene Chapa, 18, and Mollie Judith Olgin, 19, were both found June 23 in a park with gunshot wounds to the head. Olgin died from her injuries and Chapa remains hospitalized.

Witness describes shooter of lesbian couple in Texas

PORTLAND, Texas -- A witness has emerged in the shooting of a young lesbian couple that left one dead and the other fighting for her life, police say.

The teenagers were found the morning of June 23 in tall grass at Violet Andrews Park in Portland, Texas. Molly Judith Oglin, 19, was dead, and Mary Kristene Chapa, 18, was in grave condition. Both teens had been shot in the head.

The witness described the suspect as a dark-haired white male in his 20s, about 5-8 and 140 pounds, according to a police statement.

Teen lesbian couple found shot in Texas park; one girl dies

PORTLAND, Texas -- Two teenage girls in a relationship were found with gunshot wounds to the head in a south Texas park, with one of them dying from her injuries, media reports say. Police were searching for the gunman.

Mollie Judith Olgin, 19, and Mary Christine Chapa, 18, were found in knee-deep grass in a park in Portland by a couple early Saturday, the Corpus Christi Caller Times said, citing Portland Police Chief Randy Wright.

Olgin, of Flour Bluff, died; Chapa, of Sinton, was rushed to a hospital where she had surgery and was in serious but stable condition on Sunday.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- People came together in the city’s entertainment district Saturday night, to take a stand against recent bias attacks.

Members of Portland’s gay community and others rallied and marched to send a message that attacks on anyone for any reason are unacceptable.

“These acts of violence aren’t just against our community, they’re against everybody. It’s a human problem; violence is not OK and we as Americans shouldn’t be standing for it,” said organizer Jeff Carr, who is also one of the founders of the Oregon State Gay Pride Organization.

Men holding hands in public attacked in Portland, Ore.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland police are investigating a possible hate crime against two men who had been holding hands in public on Sunday evening.

The pair, identified as Brad Forkner and Christopher Rosevear, told officers that three men attacked them as they were walking through a city park.

Forkner reported that he was pushed and punched before he broke away and called 911. The attackers hit Christopher Rosevear in the head, face, back and ribs before running off, police said.
