San Diego Pride's Community Advisory Council seeks feedback

SAN DIEGO -- Now that San Diego's 38th annual LGBT Pride weekend has passed, the organization's Community Advisory Council wants to hear from the community.

The San Diego Pride Community Advisory Council has created a survey to find out a few pieces of information from people about the organization's outreach efforts.

As do many good butches, I love ties. Bow ties, long ties, skinny ties, fat ties - I love them all.

For a butch, a tie is a major fashion statement.

TODAY: U.S. military members to participate in SDSU's annual rainbow flag raising ceremony

SAN DIEGO -- Members of the U.S. military will raise the rainbow flag today at San Diego State University's (SDSU) annual rainbow flag ceremony, beginning at 11:30 am. The event, which is a public campus celebration in recognition of diversity and inclusion, will kick off LGBT Pride week in San Diego.

In the aftermath of the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," military personnel will participate for the first time in the event's five-year history.

SAN DIEGO -- Eden just finalized its star-studded Pride weekend lineup. Liberty Pride will feature extended hours on the patio and at Ciro’s Pizza, along with an extensive schedule of events Thursday though Sunday.

To accommodate the extra crowds, the currently closed restaurant will temporarily re-open. The space will be used as a lounge area with additional bar setup throughout Pride; it will also offer a happy hour and a Ciro’s menu, and a buffet brunch on both Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm.

Official San Diego Pride parties to benefit local community organizations

SAN DIEGO -- As San Diego LGBT Pride weekend approaches, the organization that produces the weekend parade and festival will produce a number of official Pride parties, the only such events that will generate revenue for Pride's philanthropy programs.

San Diego Pride has handed out more than $1.4 million to local LGBT community organizations and causes over the last several years, and says that these events will help it be able to continue giving back.

Mo's Universe launches Instagram photo contest to celebrate Pride

SAN DIEGO -- To celebrate LGBT Pride, Mo’s Universe will present its first ever photo contest on the social media platform Instagram.

Customers and followers are encouraged to participate and have the chance to win great prizes from the company, which owns Urban Mo’s, Baja Betty’s, Gossip Grill and the new Hillcrest Brewing Company.

The competition will take place during June and July 2012 and have a different theme each week.

Panelists discuss "pride" at Diversionary Theatre pre-show event

SAN DIEGO -- Diversionary Theater hosted two special evenings to launch their latest production, “The Pride,” including an opening night party on April 7 and a panel discussion the following week on Friday, April 13. Alexi Kaye Campbell’s play includes a look at elements of LGBT pride in two time periods: the late 1950s and present day. Directed by Glenn Paris, the play stars Francis Gercke, Jessica John, Brian Mackey and Dangerfield Moore.

San Diego Pride chooses 2012 theme

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego LGBT Pride has selected "America's Pride" as the theme for its 38th annual Pride Celebration Weekend, to be held July 20-22.

Dwayne Crenshaw, executive director of San Diego LGBT Pride, explains the theme in a news release issued today:

"The promise of America grounded in the Constitution, contained in our Pledge of Allegiance, inscribed on the Statue of Liberty and enunciated by generations of our nation’s leaders is that America stands for liberty, for justice, for equality for all. This has been America’s Pride,” Crenshaw said.
