U.S. Supreme Court: No action yet on Prop 8, DOMA cases

WASHINGTON – For the third consecutive week, the U.S. Supreme Court has not revealed its intentions on the Proposition 8 and Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) cases that are before them.

The nation’s high court observed the federal holiday on Monday, when the justices announce what cases they will review and which ones they will decline. Because of the holiday, they held announcements until today, but no new cases were added for the fall session.

Most legal observers think that the Supreme Court will wait until after the Nov. 6 election to make a decision.

Prop 8, DOMA cases are not placed on Supreme Court docket

WASHINGTON – Proposition 8 and Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) cases did not make the first list of cases that the U.S. Supreme Court will take up when the new term begins in October, surprising few legal observers.

Meeting on Monday, the nine justices reviewed hundreds of cases sent up for possible review, and several important cases involving gay rights were under consideration. And early this morning, the high court declared which cases it would take up, and the absence of the high-profile gay-rights cases disappointed the LGBT community.
