TODAY: San Diegans to dine out in support of The Center's HIV/AIDS services

SAN DIEGO -- More than 100 restaurants, bars, and coffeehouses are participating in Dining Out For Life, an annual fundraiser in support the San Diego LGBT Community Center's HIV/AIDS services.

Participating venues pledge to donate at least 25% of the day's sales to the cause, making it very easy for diners to participate - all they have to do is show up and dine out!

San Diego Democrats for Equality plans to reinvent itself

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Democrats for Equality have begun a process to "reinvent" the club that has been a fixture in the local LGBT community for nearly 40 years.

Club leaders are working on a detailed process in which they will evaluate, assess, and prioritize the club's strategies and explore alternative governance options for restructuring the organization. Throughout the process, the club hopes to address the following objectives:

1. Examine the role of Dems for Equality in the community;

TONIGHT: Democrats for Equality to consider endorsements in local special elections

SAN DIEGO -- Tonight's San Diego Democrats for Equality meeting - the first of the year - will feature candidate forums and endorsements for two local special elections.

Club members will hear from candidates vying for the State Senate District 40 seat recently vacated by Juan Vargas and the San Diego City Council District 4 seat, open after Tony Young resigned at the end of last year.

National Stonewall Democrats "on hiatus," and San Diego Democrats for Equality "doing well"

National Stonewall Democrats (NSD), saddled with an estimated $30,000 deficit, suspended operations on Jan. 1 with plans to relaunch in 2014.

Jerame Davis, the group’s executive director since December 2011, told the Dallas Voice on Monday that the political organization is likely “on hiatus” for the rest of 2013.

Davis said a new board would be elected in 2013 with the goal of rebuilding the organization. He noted that Stonewall Democrats have no chapters in 23 states.

Doug Case to receive national fraternity/sorority advisor award

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Longtime San Diego State University (SDSU) staffer Doug Case will be recognized this week at the 2012 Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA) annual meeting.

Case will receive the Robert A. Shaffer Award, one of AFA’s highest honors, for his efforts to make positive change, build partnerships and mentor professionals in fraternity and sorority life.

San Diego Democrats set debate viewing party at Bamboo Lounge

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Democrats for Equality and the San Diego County Young Democrats invite supporters to join them for a presidential debate viewing party tonight in Hillcrest.

The Democrats will beet from 6 to 7:30 pm tonight at Bamboo Lounge, 1475 University Ave., San Diego, CA 92103

Tonight is the second presidential debate between President Barack Obama and the Republican challenger Mitt Romney. The debate will take the form of a town meeting, in which citizens will ask questions of the candidates on foreign and domestic issues.

San Diego Democrats for Equality accepting Freedom Awards nominations

SAN DIEGO -- Nominations are now open for the San Diego Democrats for Equality's annual Freedom Awards, which will be handed out at a ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The awards program includes six honors named in honor of prominent club members, community leaders or Democrats who made great strides for equality in their lifetime. The categories include awards for individuals, organizations, club members and non-club members who have provided service to the LGBT community and its struggle for equality.

LGBT viewing party set to watch President Obama's acceptance speech

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Democrats for Equality and San Diego County Young Dems will host a viewing party on Thursday to watch President Barack Obama's acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

The Obama Watch Party 2012 will run from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Martinis Above Fourth, second floor at 3940 Fourth Ave. in Hillcrest. The event originally was scheduled elsewhere.

Happy Hour specials have been extended until 8 pm for this event and include $3 well cocktails.

Ten members of the San Diego Democrats for Equality are in North Carolina for the DNC.
