Immigration Court urged not to deport HIV-positive man convicted in sting

LOS ANGELES – Lambda Legal and the HIV Law Project today submitted a friend-of-the-court brief asking the Bureau of Immigration Appeals (BIA) to overturn an Immigration Judge’s ruling ordering the deportation of an HIV-positive immigrant convicted of solicitation for oral sex.

April: National Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month

SAN DIEGO — April is National Prevention of Animal Cruelty month, so the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA is reminding the community to be advocates in the fight against animal cruelty and abuse.

The San Diego Humane Society receives more than 2,000 calls of suspected animal cruelty or neglect each year.

“We rely on community information to help our investigations,” said Randy Lawrence, Director of Humane Law Enforcement for the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA. “It’s often times the only way we’re able to collect enough evidence to bring animal abusers to justice.”

Survey: San Diego drivers are distracted

SAN DIEGO -- There were about 3,300 deaths and 400,000 injuries nationwide in 2011 due to collisions involving distracted driving, according to experts in the Training, Research and Education for Driving Safety (TREDS) program at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine.

The use of cell phones while operating a vehicle is currently the leading cause of driver distraction crashes in California.
