Shara Strand ain't Hyde-ing; she's at Rich's tonight

SAN DIEGO -- “Jekyll or Hyde,” the first single from Shara Strand’s "Born Tonight" album, is a song she wrote about falling for a guy who, at least in the beginning, appeared to be Mr. Right. In time, however, another side surfaced, and Strand realized he was oh, so wrong.

“It’s a story everyone can relate to,” she said. “I’ve learned getting 50% of the love I want is not enough. The love of my life will give me 100%.”

Shara Strand performs the Mike Rizzo remix of “Jekyll or Hyde” on Friday, Feb. 22, at Rich’s nightclub in Hillcrest.

Jon Huntsman: Republicans should embrace marriage equality

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – Something surprising has happened this year in LaLaLand … the Academy Awards are being rebranded as The Oscars.
We’ve called the ceremony the Oscars for like, forever, but it’s now official. So forget that this is the 85th Academy Awards.

"We're rebranding it," Oscar show co-producer Neil Meron told TheWrap this week. "We're not calling it 'the 85th annual Academy Awards,' which keeps it mired somewhat in a musty way. It's called 'The Oscars.'"

So it goes. Another Hollywood tradition bites the dust.

Gay Days Anaheim recently announced April 13 as the date for its “Mini Gay Day."

Mini Gay Day is a smaller, less formal warm-up event to the big Gay Days Anaheim weekend at Disneyland later in the year (Oct. 4-6). A schedule of events should be posted HERE soon. And don’t forget to wear a red shirt!

It's probably a good time to reserve your Disney hotel rooms for the big weekend in October, as those sold-out weeks before the event last year. You can get deep discounts if you book now.

AP relents on use of "husband" and "wife" to refer to gay and lesbian couples

More than a week after coming under attack for its discriminatory policy denying the use of "husband" and "wife" to refer to gay and lesbian couples who marry, The Associated Press today amended its policy to be non-discriminatory.

North County bicyclists welcome new bike lane, sharrows

SAN DIEGO – Drivers and bicyclists traveling through Encinitas along Coast Highway 101 have seen a change to the roadway in recent weeks. In an effort to better accommodate the growing number of bicyclists in the area, the City of Encinitas added a new bike lane to northbound Coast Highway 101 from Leucadia Boulevard to La Costa Avenue.

Crews also added a total of 140 sharrows and 28 “Bicycles May Use Full Lane” signage in both directions from K Street to La Costa Avenue to remind motorists that cyclists may ride in the center of the lane for increased safety and visibility.

ACTION ALERT: Tell legislators to support SB 323 to end tax-exempt status for youth groups that discriminate

A new petition from Eddie Kurtz, a straight former Boy Scout is urging the California Legislature to pass SB 323, ending tax breaks for youth groups that discriminate against members based on their sexual orientation, including the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).

The petition on MoveOn.org’s online petition website, SignOn.org has been signed by over 5,000 Californians.
