Chargers raid Colts for new GM

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Chargers said today that it has hired Tom Telesco away from the Indianapolis Colts to be its next general manager.

Telesco was the vice president of football operations for the Colts, which advanced to the NFL playoffs this year with rookie quarterback Andrew Luck and an interim coach subbing for head coach Chuck Pagano, who took a leave of absence after being diagnosed with leukemia.

This past month I was pleased to join with the San Diego Maritime Museum in recognizing the career achievements of Senator Christine Kehoe. After 20 years in elected office, the Senator is moving on to lead the California Plug-in Vehicle Collaborative. This new position will allow her to continue her work in steering California towards a greener energy future.

Coastkeeper, Surfrider provide 2012 beach cleanup data, set 2013 schedule

SAN DIEGO –– San Diego Coastkeeper and the Surfrider Foundation, San Diego Chapter — two of the region’s leading environmental organizations — announce results from their 2012 beach cleanup data collection.

In 2012, more than 4,000 volunteers removed almost 7,600 pounds of trash, about an average of 1.7 pounds per person.

Jeanne Manford, the founder of PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) and an all-around pioneering straight ally in the LGBT rights movement, has died at 92.

Manford died at her Daly City, Calif. home and had been in declining health for some time, daughter Suzanne Swan confirmed.

Local Boy Scouts council approves gay Scout's Eagle application

The Mount Diablo-Silverado Boy Scout Council in California approved gay Scout Ryan Andresen's Eagle badge application, despite the Boy Scouts of America's national ban on gay Scouts and leaders. The application now heads to the BSA national offices for final approval.
