San Diego Pride launches LGBT community legal clinic

SAN DIEGO -- In a partnership with the Tom Homann LGBT Law Association and California Western School of Law’s Pride Law, San Diego LGBT Pride will establish a new volunteer run Pride Legal Clinic to address the legal concerns of the LGBT community and to provide a local point of contact to assist in finding answers to legal questions.

Walk-in services will be provided with attorneys that can assess legal questions and use their resources to ensure needs are met.

Pride’s first legal clinic will be held on Tuesday, April 2, from 5 to 7 pm at the offices of San Diego LGBT Pride.

San Diego Pride chooses 2013 theme

SAN DIEGO -- The theme for the 39th annual San Diego LGBT Pride celebration has been announced as "Freedom to Love and Marry." This year's festivities will place July 12-14.

“We are standing at a critical moment in our movement when the very question of our ability to love is before this nation's highest court,” said Fernando Lopez, San Diego Pride Public Affairs Director and longtime marriage equality activist.

Cheli Mohamed to leave San Diego Pride staff after 20 years

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego LGBT Pride said today that Araceli "Cheli" Mohamed will be leaving her position at Pride and moving on to serve as the Corporate & Operations Manager of the California Police Athletic Federation.

"Cheli has added more to our organization and in turn to our community than most will ever realize," said Stephen Whitburn, interim general manager of San Diego LGBT Pride. "Through her 20 years of service with Pride her vision, drive and determination have inspired a generation of volunteers and community leaders."

San Diego Pride grants over $85,000 to LGBT groups

SAN DIEGO -- As a result of a successful 2012 pride celebration, San Diego LGBT Pride announced grants to 14 local community organizations at its annual meeting Tuesday night in the auditorium of The San Diego LGBT Community Center.

San Diego Pride sets dates for 2013 celebration

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego LGBT Pride has announced that its 2013 celebration will take place the weekend of July 12-14. The dates of the annual celebration have been moved up one week, departing from the organization's recent history of celebrating pride on the third weekend of July.

The change was made in large part due to the annual Comic Con International, held in San Diego, which has been scheduled for July 18-21, 2013.

San Diego Pride seeking board members

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego LGBT Pride will host a meet and greet for community members interested in learning more about being on the organization's board of directors. The event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 13 from 6-8 pm at Gossip Grill.

The board of directors holds the overall fiduciary responsibility for the organization which produces the annual San Diego LGBT Pride Parade, Festival, and other activities. The full board meets monthly, with some other responsibilities year round.

San Diego Pride holds first post-Pride meeting

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Pride’s governing board had their first meeting following the 28th annual Pride celebration last month. The open meeting was held at their North Park office on Aug. 15.

San Diego Pride to host first-ever Youth Empowerment Academy

SAN DIEGO -- In an effort to provide a space for youth to emerge into leadership roles in the community, San Diego Pride will host its first ever Youth Leadership Academy on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Students and youth between the ages of 16-23 are welcome to apply to be a part of the academy program, which will train them on how to be an active leader in both their school and community. The one-day seminar will include outdoor activities, bonding exercises, and empowering workshops, and introduce participants to topics such as empowerment, sexual identity, school advocacy, and network building.

TONIGHT: San Diego Pride board of directors to vote on several controversial items

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Pride, the organization that produces the city's annual LGBT pride festivities, will hold its first board of directors meeting since this year's celebration. It's tonight at 6:30 pm.

After a series of standard business items, the board is scheduled to vote on several controversial items, including those advanced from the organization's executive committee.

Another San Diego Pride weekend has come and gone. I hope everyone is recovering well!
