Gay Men's Chorus “Summer of Love” Encore Gala pays homage to Sixties music, social justice

SAN DIEGO – Mayor Bob Filner will open the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus “Summer of Love” Encore Gala on Saturday, June 15 at Liberty Station, Point Loma.

All proceeds from the Sixties-themed event will benefit the 150-member chorus’s mission of making social change through musical outreach.

Filner is no stranger to the turmoil of Sixties, having been one of the first people to enter the Deep South as a Freedom Rider in 1961, protesting racial injustice in Mississippi. Filner was arrested for his activism and was incarcerated until the U.S. Supreme Court overturned his conviction.

ADOPT ME! Take Petey home!

Petey is a blonde-colored Catahoula Leopard dog weighing 61 pounds. He is 7 years old and has been spayed.

Why I'd make the perfect pet

I'm a goofy, friendly boy. I love other high energy dogs and learn very quickly. I have a lot of energy to burn and can't wait to go to class with you to learn how to do that. Type of home I'm looking for: I will need an adult only home.

(Editor's note: SDGLN has exposed a very ugly secret in our community: intentional drugging of victims and male rape. On Thursday, SDGLN published a first-person account of a well-known gay man in San Diego who was drugged and raped sometime after being out celebrating at a nightclub in Hillcrest. We verified the source and his story. Because of the sensitive and personal nature of this incident, we granted his request to run his important first-person story without revealing his name.
