TONIGHT: Mayor Bob Filner to address Hillcrest Town Council

SAN DIEGO -- Mayor Bob Filner will address the Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) at the group's first meeting of the year, taking place tonight at 6:30 pm.

HTC representatives say that the mayor will speak about his vision for neighborhoods and that there will be an opportunity for participants to ask questions or voice their concerns directly to Filner.

Following Filner's presentation, representatives from other local government offices will give updates and take questions from those in attendance.

In the United States of America, there are millions of people who hate millions of other people based on the color of their skin, or their religion, or their politics or their gender. Sunday morning fire damages Hillcrest preschool at LGBT-friendly church

SAN DIEGO -- A fire early Sunday caused about $100,000 in damage at the First Unitarian Universalist Church in Hillcrest, the San Diego Fire Department said.

While no major buildings were affected, a large wooden outdoor play structure burned, causing damage to the play yard at the Unitarian Cooperative Preschool, located on the church grounds. The fire was reported around 3 am and was extinguished within 20 minutes.

NEW YORK -- HuffPost Live will be interviewing Pam Spees of the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) and Pepe Onziema, the Advocacy and Policy Officer of Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG), about their federal lawsuit against anti-LGBT activist Scott Lively.

CCR and SMUG have sued pastor Lively for "crimes against humanity" in federal court under the Alien Tort Stature.

Actor Matt Dallas comes out, introduces new beau on Twitter

Matt Dallas, formerly the star of the ABC Family series "Kyle XY," came out Sunday night in a tweet announcing his engagement to Los Angeles-based musician Blue Hamilton.

Dallas has never publicly addressed his sexual orientation before, but has been photographed with Hamilton in public on several occasions.

Teen "white supremacist" arrested in plot to bomb school in hate crime attack

PHENIX CITY, Ala. — Derek Shrout, a 17-year-old self-proclaimed white-supremacist, was released on a $75,000 bond Monday evening after being arrested Friday for planning to kill six students and a teacher in a bomb plot. Five of the intended victims were African-American, while one was gay.

Former gay and lesbian service members subject to discriminatory policy to get full separation pay

WASHINGTON – Former service members who are part of a class action lawsuit challenging a Defense Department policy that cuts in half the separation pay of those who have been honorably discharged for “homosexuality” will receive their full pay after a settlement announced today.

The American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of New Mexico had filed a class action lawsuit against the policy, which was not part of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" statute and so was not changed when that law was repealed.
