VIDEO: This weekend, 28th annual Hillcrest CityFest expands with "CityFest Night"

SAN DIEGO – Hillcrest’s annual community celebration, CityFest, will return for the 28th year this Sunday starting at noon.

On the outside, this street festival may look like one of the many other similar events that take place across the city year round – vendor booths, entertainment, fair food and beverages. But once at the event, one will see that CityFest has a character, spirit, flair and fabulousness that only Hillcrest can provide.

Help local charities on Chick-fer-gAy Appreciation Day on Aug. 20

SAN DIEGO – Leave it to the LGBT community to find an innovative way to turn a chicken sandwich controversy into a celebrated cause.

With the fury over Chick-fil-A’s president Dan Cathy giving millions of dollars to anti-gay causes, LGBT Americans can fight back by donating cash to local charities that serve our community.

SDPIX celebrates 10 years!

SAN DIEGO – In today’s economy, it is often difficult for small-business owners to stay afloat for more than a few years. Some, though, have worked their way through the economic challenges and only grow and thrive.

Such is the case with Hale Media, the parent company of San Diego Pix (SDPIX) and San Diego Gay & Lesbian News (SDGLN), which will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of its SDPIX brand this Saturday night with a party at “Laser Party” at Rich’s nightclub.

Jim Winsor's Out & About: Wrapping up Pride weekend parties

Another San Diego Pride weekend has come and gone. I hope everyone is recovering well!

There were, by my count, 71 special Pride-themed club and party events last weekend. To get an idea of how successful the weekend was on that score, I asked several of my friends for comments, and here are a few of the thoughts and reflections they had to share:

Community members invited to join SDGLN and SDPIX contingent in tomorrow's San Diego Pride Parade

SAN DIEGO -- With San Diego LGBT Pride weekend here, there is a lot to celebrate. Along with the installation of the Hillcrest Pride Flag, military servicemembers being authorized to wear their uniforms in this year's Pride parade, and other advances in the fight for equality like the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," community members will be spending the weekend reflecting on these steps forward.

SATURDAY: SDPIX and SDGLN to host official San Diego Pride Parade Viewing Party at Eden

SAN DIEGO -- One of the biggest challenges many face when heading to the annual San Diego LGBT Pride Parade is choosing where to view the parade from.

As the 38th annual parade, dubbed "America's Pride" this year, passes by this Saturday, one of the best places to view it will be from Eden in Hillcrest, where SDPIX/SDGLN and the nightclub have teamed for the "Official Parade Viewing Party."

Not only will those who attend the party be situated at one of the best spots along the parade route, they will be surrounded by other parade revelers celebrating America's Pride.
