San Jose Earthquakes forward Alan Gordon issues an apology on Monday and faces possible suspension after NBC cameras captured him shouting “fuc*ing faggot” at Portland Timbers player Will Johnson on Sunday.

Two top-level Russian footballers have sparked outrage after a series of "gay" holiday pictures have emerged.

Pavel Mamayev, 24, a midfielder for CSKA Moscow, and Alexander Kokorin, 21, a striker from FC Dynamo Moscow, are believed to be in a relationship after ‘intimate’ photographs of them were posted on the Internet.

Football team sacked after homophobic threats

A Swedish football (soccer) club has fired all the players on its top team following complaints that players hurled homophobic remarks at members of an opposing team.

"We distance ourselves from all insults. Clearly it's damaging for the club to have players who don't follow the rules," Ketil Torp, chair of the Sörskogens IF football club, told Sveriges Radio (SR).

MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has spoken out about homophobia, saying homosexuality in football is a "taboo topic."

The 28-year-old Danish footballer is urging players and fans to address the problem, especially to help young gay players to not give up the sport due to a fear of prejudice.

In a blog for gambling website Betfair, he said:

"Gay football is a taboo topic, we footballers would rather not have anything to do with it.

Seattle Sounders' Marc Burch gets fine, suspension for homophobic slur

Major League Soccer has suspended Seattle Sounders' Marc Burch for three games after he used a homophobic slur against another player during a playoff match against the opposing Real Salt Lake team last week.

Burch was also fined an undisclosed amount and mandated to take diversity and sensitivity training, reported the Seattle Times.

The three-game suspension effectively puts an end to his participation in the current soccer season.
