RGOD2: “Legalize Love For Everyone” feast coming to San Diego for Valentine's Day

February 15th was the ancient Roman Feast of Lupercalia when young boys and girls (who tended to be kept strictly separate) were allowed to explore their sexuality. Each young man would draw a girl’s name from the jar and they would then be partners for the duration of the festival. Sometimes the pairing of the children lasted an entire year, and often, they would fall in love and would later marry.

St. Paul’s Foundation celebrates second birthday this weekend with fundraiser

SAN DIEGO -- SDGLN is not often thought of as an international publication even though it is read in 175 countries. For many of our readers abroad -- the news and information about all the fun things we do here, our struggles and challenges and how we connect with the rest of the world, our publication represents a lifeline. It also gives them a hope that one day they too can have free association and a free press, civil rights, access to HIV information and health care as well as business opportunities.

RGOD2: Spreading the word on the road to Minneapolis and Indianapolis | VIDEO

Last week, Bishop Christopher Senyonjo and I had an opportunity to relax in the home of Tim and Michael, two dear friends in Minnetonka, Minn. We had been on the road fighting for global equality for two weeks, so it was a time to do laundry, have lunch with my partner Mile (as he changed planes on his way to Europe to visit his family) and give some support to the local campaign for marriage equality.

We were interviewed by KFAI Radio and shared some of the background of the anti-LGBT campaign in Africa.

RGOD2: And the archbishop wondered: Dildos for the widows of Uganda?

Yona Okoth (pictured below) was the Anglican Archbishop of Uganda from 1984 to 1995. He described himself as “ just a man from the jungle” and rose from obscurity to head the 10 million member Church of Uganda representing a third of his country’s population.

I met him in 1991 when he asked for help to combat the spread of AIDS. He had an “AIDS conversion experience” in 1988 after he dramatically spoke at the Lambeth Conference of worldwide Anglican bishops.

From exile to reconciliation: The remarkable journey of a gay clergyman

(Editor's note: The Rev. Canon Albert Ogle of San Diego wrote this article for inclusion in a book that will be printed by the Church of Ireland.)

In 1980, I was fired for being a gay priest. It was a long time ago but it was very difficult, and an example the results of a "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" policy practiced by both church and state.

Episcopalian priest: Time to clean up anti-gay toxins Anglicans dispensed via evangelism

Editor's note: The Rev. Canon Albert Ogle is a San Diego human rights activist and is president of St. Paul’s Foundation for International Reconciliation. He is an expert on Ugandan LGBT issues through his work with Bishop Christopher Senyonjo.

As a cradle Anglican and Episcopalian priest, I was shocked to learn that out of 80 countries that currently criminalize homosexuality, 45 are former British colonies and whose modern elites are largely Anglicans.
