Report: Cameroon most aggressive country in prosecuting suspected gays

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast — Cameroon prosecutes people for consensual same-sex conduct more aggressively than almost any country in the world, four human rights organizations said in a report released Thursday.

The organizations – Alternatives-Cameroun, Association for the Defense of Gays and Lesbians (ADEFHO), the Cameroonian Foundation for AIDS (CAMFAIDS), and Human Rights Watch – found that at least 28 people have been prosecuted for same-sex conduct in Cameroon since 2010.

In Lebanon, 36 men arrested at gay porn movie, forced to pay for anal probe exams

BEIRUT, Lebanon -- The 36 men arrested at a gay porn cinema in Beirut have had to pay for an anal probe exam to be conducted on them, despite it being a form of torture.

According to Helem, the LGBT advocacy charity in Lebanon, 33 of the 36 men arrested on Saturday have now been released on bail but may still be charged and face a court case.

NEW YORK -- Syrian government forces have used sexual violence to torture men, women and children detained during the current conflict. Witnesses and victims also told Human Rights Watch that soldiers and pro-government armed militias have sexually abused women and girls as young as 12 during home raids and military sweeps of residential areas.

UK halts deporting of gay man who was tortured in Uganda

The removal of Ugandan gay asylum seeker Robert Segwanyi was tonight "deferred" at the last minute. He had been moved today to a Heathrow "removal center" for an early morning July 11 flight to Kampala.

The deferment comes after the last minute intervention of Segwanyi's MP, Mike Hancock, as well as the MEP Michael Cashman. Many concerned people also wrote the British Home Secretary Theresa May over the past few days.
