Nevada’s hate crimes protections now include transgender community

CARSON CITY, Nev. -- Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval on Tuesday signed into law SB 139, legislation adding gender identity and expression to the state's hate crimes law.

Under the new law, transgender Nevadans will have the same protections against hate crimes as all other vulnerable communities. Under the leadership of Senators Pat Spearman and David Parks, the bill passed the state Senate with all but one senator voting in favor and 30-11 in the state Assembly.

The Center launches Project TRANS, a transgender services program

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego LGBT Community Center has launched Project TRANS, its transgender services program.

Project TRANS (Transgender Referrals, Assistance, Networking and Services) will serve as an umbrella for the various services The Center has previously offered specifically to the transgender community, including discussion groups, behavioral health services, HIV prevention services, youth services and more.

National Transgender Health Summit scheduled for May 17-18

Yo: Pronouns and cons

Some schoolkids in Baltimore began integrating into their slang a new gender-neutral pronoun, "yo," as in "so yo went to the store and bought a juice and a magazine" or "hand it to yo." It's the first third-gender pronoun I've heard that doesn't sound silly, separating or degrading. It can be used by anyone for anyone, and it takes the (gender/sex-based) guessing out of things. Without even realizing it, these kids found a realistic solution to the problem of creating a pronoun that can be applied to women, men and anyone in between.

Transgender identity bill passed by California Assembly panel

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Assembly Bill 1121, authored by Assemblymember Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) and co-sponsored by Transgender Law Center and Equality California, passed the Assembly Committee on Judiciary today.

The bill will help ensure that transgender people have access to identity documents that accurately reflect the name and gender that correspond to their gender identity. The bill will next go to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

Discovered by Torrent Freak, an American website that analyses file sharing, a number of films and pornographic clips were downloaded in the hub of the Roman Catholic church.
