Esurance donating $100,000 to LGBT charities

SAN FRANCISCO -- Esurance, the direct-to-consumer personal car insurance company, has kicked off its third annual charitable giving campaign supporting LGBT equality.

Trevor Hero Award to be given to Cindy McCain

NEW YORK -- The Trevor Project will honor philanthropist Cindy McCain with the Trevor Hero Award at TrevorLIVE New York at Chelsea Piers for her ongoing support of the LGBT community.

The award will be presented to McCain by her daughter Meghan McCain on Monday, June 17 at The Trevor Project’s signature annual event that brings together top entertainers, advocates and corporate leaders to support the organization’s life-saving, life-affirming work for LGBT and questioning youth in crisis.

Adam Lambert teams up with AT&T to promote "Live Proud" campaign

DALLAS -- In celebration of LGBT Pride season, the AT&T “Live Proud” campaign is inviting the LGBTQ community and beyond to take part in an effort centered on awareness, empowerment, and most importantly, pride.

In return, AT&T will contribute a minimum of $25,000 and up to $50,000 to The Trevor Project, the national leader in crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ youth.

Lambda Legal has been selected by GuideStar USA’s Philanthropedia as the top-ranked nonprofit group standing up for LGBT equality.

Experts working in the LGBT sector were asked to recommend up to four nonprofits making significant contributions in LGBT equality and support on the national level and up to three nonprofits making a significant contribution at the state and local levels.

VIDEO: Gay-themed indie film "Facing East" seeks angels via Kickstarter Campaign

The pre-production feature film “Facing East” released a Kickstarter Campaign this week. The goal to be raised is $65,000.

The film tells the story of a prominent Mormon couple dealing with the aftermath of their gay son’s suicide.

The Trevor Project, the nation’s only suicide hotline for LGBT and questioning youth, endorses “Facing East” and 10% of all profits go to that organization.

Social Media has "gone purple" for #SpiritDay

SAN DIEGO -- Those who are connected to people who support LGBT equality on Social Media sites such as Facebook likely saw an online sea of purple when logging on this morning. In support LGBT youth and anti-bullying efforts, thousands of people will join in the Spirit Day movement, which encourages people to “go purple.”

First started by Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan in 2010, the campaign has since taken off, now being coordinated GLAAD, with support from The Trevor Project and GLSEN, and corporations like American Apparel and Toyota.

National Coming Out Day encourages participants to come out and vote for equality

SAN DIEGO – October is a special month for the LGBT community, with a number of observances that include LGBT History Month, Spirit Day, the anniversary of Matthew Shepard’s death, and National Coming Out Day (NCOD), which is being celebrated today locally and across the nation.

From local college campuses to a Google Hangout created for NCOD, LGBT people across the nation will encourage others to come out, be themselves, and raise greater awareness of the challenges that the community faces.

The marketplace storefront features apparel, buttons, stickers and accessories sold at no premium or mark-up, ensuring this not-for-profit store serves to raise awareness for the leading provider of crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, ages 13-24.
